ORE exam fees and preparation costs

Our ore exam fees guide explains what overseas dentists need: on 6 May 2026 the GDC announced confirmed sittings, expanded capacity and a revised fee structure for the first year of its new ORE contract with UCL Consultants Ltd. The first exams under the new contract run from August 2026; the contract year runs from 31 May 2026 to 30 May 2027.

Exam fees are only part of the picture. Overseas dentists should also budget for preparation — books, question banks, mock exams and optional tutor sessions. Investing upfront in structured materials typically costs less than a resit, especially with Part 2 fees now at £6,967 for 2026/27.

This ORE exam fees guide explains what overseas dentists need for UK registration through the ORE route. Use our ORE exam fees resources alongside official GDC guidance and Enamel Academy courses for structured preparation. See also: ORE Part 1 course, ORE exam booking.

New UCL Consultants contract

First exams under the new contract from August 2026. Part 1 capacity rises to 2,400 places per year; Part 2 to 944 in year one.

GDC ORE fees for 2026/27

Fees reflect the cost of delivering the examination under the new contract. VAT now applies to the ORE and is included in the fee structure. Fees are set under the General Dental Council (Dentists) (Fees) Regulations 2026.

Application processing fee: £115 (was £96) · Part 1: £485 (was £584) · Part 2: £6,967 (was £4,235). Part 2 fees reflect specialist clinical facilities, examiners and quality assurance; the GDC expects Part 2 fees to remain broadly stable over the next five years.

Always confirm current fees on the official GDC announcement before paying.

Booking through MyGDC

For the first time, candidates book ORE sittings through their MyGDC account. The booking window for the August 2026 Part 1 sitting opens on 30 June 2026. Log in to MyGDC in advance — reset your password if needed.

Candidates nearing the five-year Part 2 limit and those with refugee status receive priority access. Demand remains high and places are not expected to meet demand in the short term. A revised candidate portal is planned for exams scheduled in 2027.

See GDC ORE booking dates for the latest windows and our ORE booking guide for how preparation fits around registration.

Book via MyGDC only

Enamel Academy does not handle ORE registration. Prepare first, then book when ready through your MyGDC account.

Self-Study vs Tutor-Led Preparation

We recommend self-study first — revision book, question bank and mock papers from our Part 1 courses. Focused tutor sessions are optional.

ORE exam fees — common questions

How much do ORE Part 1 and Part 2 exam fees cost in 2026/27?

For 2026/27 the GDC confirmed: application processing fee £115, Part 1 fee £485, and Part 2 fee £6,967. VAT is included. Always confirm on the official GDC website before budgeting — fees may change.

When are the first ORE sittings under the new contract?

Part 1: 25–26 August 2026, 14–15 October 2026, 2–3 February 2027 and 6–7 April 2027 (600 places each). Part 2: from 10–13 September 2026, then sittings through April 2027. Booking for August 2026 Part 1 opens 30 June 2026.

How do I book an ORE sitting?

Book through your MyGDC account — not through Enamel Academy or third parties. Ensure you can log in before booking opens. Priority access applies for candidates near the five-year Part 2 limit and those with refugee status.

Why did Part 2 fees increase while Part 1 decreased?

The GDC states Part 2 requires specialist clinical facilities, experienced examiners and rigorous quality assurance at scale. The new contract requires significant capital investment by UCL Consultants. Part 1 fees decreased 17%; Part 2 increased 65% from the previous fee.

What preparation costs should I budget besides exam fees?

Plan for books, question banks, mock papers and optional tutor sessions. Enamel Academy Part 1 resources range from £150 individually to £250 for the book + bank bundle — typically far less than a resit fee.

Does investing in preparation save money overall?

With Part 2 at £6,967 for 2026/27, a resit is costly. Structured preparation — revision book, question bank and timed mocks before booking — reduces the risk of paying twice. Mock papers help justify your sitting date.
